The Art of Ken Jones
5.28.08 Exhibition News
I've been accepted into two juried exhibitions (so far) this summer!

The first is the 51st Annual Juried Exhibition at The Rocky Mount Arts Center, in Rocky Mount, NC. The show opened May 24th, and runs through Sept 14th. Here is a link to their website.
Juror Elma Johnson was the first North Carolina University professor to be awarded the Governor's Award in the Arts and Sciences. She has exhibited in multiple medias including painting, ceramics, and fiber throughout the US and in Germany and produced commissioned works for corporations. She currently serves on the Standards Committee for the Southern Highland Craft Guild and the Advisory Board for Haywood Technical Production Crafts.
If you're in the Raleigh area, please drop by and see the show, including my piece, Carapace.

From Aug 30th through Sept 26th, I'll be exhibiting two new works, Capsule and Buoy, at The Alpan Gallery's Alpan International 2008, in Huntington (Long Island), NY. Here is a link to the exhibition's page on their website.
Juror Phyllis Braff is the current president of the International Association of Art Critics, USA section, and served as an art critic for the New York Times for several decades, among many other prestigious positions. 454 works were submitted for the show from across the globe, and I am honored to be one of eleven artists selected for this prestigious exhibit.
If you're in or around the city during September, please take time out to go see this exciting show.
1.20.08 -- Sister OMs Completed
I've finally completed my first two scratch-built guitars -- both are based on the classic CF Martin Orchestra Model body shape, and were immensely challenging and gratifying to build. One is promised to one of my oldest friends in the world, and the other will be lovingly played until it finds its way to a new home. Both can be viewed here. I've learned a tremendous amount on the three builds I've completed to date, and there's lots more to learn. I plan to build the next several guitars for very little over my material costs, in the interest of developing my understanding of the nuances of technique, tone, and aesthetic. It's an oppotunity to own a hand-built instrument for the cost of a mid-priced mass-produced factory-built guitar.
11.08.07 Front Gallery Exhibition Set
Well, my Asheville "coming out" is finally set. Today I signed the contract for a show at the Front Gallery beginning March 7th, and running through March 30th. I'm exhibiting with Cynthia Roelle, who will be showing her documentary photographs from her time in Iraq. Carrie Wagner will also be exhibiting her Ugandan portraits in the Back Gallery. It promises to be an exciting exhibition.
